A strong focus on European Digital Innovation Hubs (EDIHs) in action and on building a robust network for digital collaboration and innovation across Europe was at the heart of EDIH Day 2026, held on 21 May 2026 at Sofia Tech Park.
The forum brought together representatives of businesses, European Digital Innovation Hubs, technology organisations, public institutions, and experts in digital transformation and industrial innovation.
The event was dedicated to the role of European Digital Innovation Hubs in supporting companies and public authorities in the adoption of new technologies, artificial intelligence, digital skills, and Industry 4.0 solutions.
The forum was officially opened by Lyubomir Stanislavov, CEO of Automotive Cluster Bulgaria, and Iliyana Ilieva, Director General of the Directorate-General for European Competitiveness Funds. In their opening remarks, they highlighted the importance of cooperation between businesses, public institutions, and innovation ecosystems in accelerating the digital transition and enhancing the competitiveness of European industry.
Representatives of leading European EDIHs and innovation centres took part in the event, including AI EDIH Hungary, EDIH Südwestfalen, and Ventspils High Technology Park. Successful models for building regional innovation ecosystems, examples of cross-border collaboration among EDIHs, and good practices in the deployment of AI technologies and digital services for small and medium-sized enterprises were presented.
Particular attention was given to the “Test Before Invest” initiatives, which enable companies to test innovative technologies and solutions before making investment decisions and implementing them in their operations.
Among the featured speakers were Maria Nakova, Head of the Construction Sector EDIH, Dr. Rumyana Grozeva, Coordinating Partner of EDIH Zagore, Yordan Zdravkov from Cleantech Bulgaria, and Eng. Vlady Velikov, Founder of Improvinn.
The “Smart City” discussion panel also attracted significant interest, addressing topics related to sustainable urban environments, shared mobility, digital infrastructure, and the future of smart cities.
EDIH Day 2026 further reinforced the role of European Digital Innovation Hubs as a key driver of digital transformation, innovation uptake, and the development of a stronger and more competitive European industry.
The event provided an important platform for knowledge exchange, the creation of new partnerships, and the development of international cooperation among organisations working in the fields of technology and innovation.
